Delhi air quality 'severe' again
New Delhi/UNI: Air quality in the national capital again spiked to the 'severe ' category on Tuesday, with an average Air Quality Index of 425 at 1600 hrs, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
The data released by the CPCB was based on the average of air quality recorded at 35 monitoring stations across the city.
The situation was similar in NCR areas, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Greater Noida, where the air quality reeled under the 'severe' category, with average AQIs registering above 430 at some of these places.
The toxic air left people gasping for breath, specially in the early hours, with a haze covering the skyline of the national capital and people complaining of itching in eyes, discomfort while breathing, coughing and overall uneasiness.
Dwarka, Bawana, Anand Vihar and Wazirpur were among the most-polluted areas in the city as the AQI recorded at theses places was above 440.
As per the experts, the rise in pollution levels may be attributed to the low wind speed and dip in the temperature, making the air cooler and dense as the relative humidity on Tuesday morning was also on the higher side, pegging at 89 per cent at around 0830 hrs.
The weatherman had forecast haze for Tuesday, while minimum temperature was recorded at 11.7 degree Celsius, so far the lowest for the season.
