Covid: Five cases of Delta variant sub-lineage AY.12 detected in Uttarakhand

Dehradun/IBNS: Uttarakhand has reported five cases of AY.12 variant of Delta - three in Nainital district, one in Kotdwar area of Pauri Garhwal district, and 1 in Rudraprayag district, according to media reports.

Dr BK Shukla, Dr Manoj Sharma, and Dr Bhagirathi Joshi, chief medical officers of Rudraprayag, Pauri, and Nainital districts respectively confirmed that five samples were detected with AY.12 variant.

Contact tracing and testing have been started to trace more people potentially infected with the sub-lineage of the Delta variant of Covid.

Authorities are monitoring the locality where the infected people live though they have already recovered.

Last month, a 23-year-old in US Nagar was detected with the Delta plus variant.

So far, Uttarakhand has reported over 342,000 Coronavirus cases and 7,380 fatalities from the virus.
