Controversies erupt following ban on cracker sale in Delhi

Adding fuel to the fire was a remark by Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy, who tweeted in Hindi on Tuesday saying that first 'dahi handi' and now crackers, who knows they might ban the Hindu way of cremation too, media reported.

Popular author Chetan Bhagat too has spoken against the ban. In one of his tweets, said Bhagat, "Diwali is 1 day, 0.27% of year. pollution comes from 99.6% days of poor planning and regulation. Fix that. Not make 1 religion feel guilty."

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh home minister Bhupendra Singh on Tuesday, invited people from Delhi to celebrate the festival of lights in his state. He tweeted, in Hindi, that in MP people have the independence to burn crackers. Celebrate Diwali in all happiness, even invite your friends from Delhi.

He further tweeted in Hindi that the MP government works round the year for environment protection, not any one day.

The ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi has been imposed considering the increase in air pollution in the NCR.

It is believed that the ban will have a “positive effect” on the health of citizens and a steadily deteriorating air quality, according to media reports.

The sale of firecrackers, which is currently banned, will begin from November.
