
Villagers recover carcasses of wild elephants in Assam’s Jagiroad
Guwahati/IBNS: Local villagers of Jagiroad area in Assam’s Morigaon district have recovered carcasses of two wild elephants in nearby hill areas.
The incident took place at the Sonaikuchi hill area near Jagiroad.
According to the reports, a lumberjack of Sonaikuchi village area on Tuesday went to the hill area and found two wild tuskers were lying dead near a tree.
The man immediately informed local villagers as well as forest officials.
Later, local villagers and forest officials rushed to the area and found both wild tuskers dead.
“10-12 days back a villager had spotted two elephants nearby a tree at that location. One woodcutter of our village went to the hill area and spotted carcasses of the wild elephants at the same place and he buried the carcasses in the area. According to the doctor, the wild jumbos died due to lightning. Later, we buried the wild jumbos at the area,” a local villager said.
It is suspected that the wild jumbos died a few days back.
