New Delhi/IBNS: India registered a new record in Covid single-day spike and deaths with 3.49 lakh fresh infections and 2,767 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The fresh infections have taken the country's caseload to 1.69 crores and the total death count to 1,92,311.

This is the fourth straight day that India has recorded over 3 lakh Covid cases and over 2,000 deaths.

The massive spike in cases continues as several states are facing a severe oxygen crisis including the national capital.

On Friday, 25 people died at Jaipur Golden Hospital due to low oxygen pressure.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also requested all chief ministers to provide oxygen to the national capital, if they have spare.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held yet another high-level meet amid appeals from several states as patients struggle to get hospital beds and other essential facilities.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the United States is closely working with their partners in the Indian government and will rapidly deploy additional support to the Covid-hit country.

Blinken's remarks come just a day after the United States denied a request by India to lift the ban on the export of raw materials essential to produce Covid-19 vaccines.
