New Delhi/IBNS: The national capital has recorded a massive daily spike of 3,594 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, along with 14 deaths.

The last time the daily Covid cases were this high in Delhi was on Dec 4 last year with 4,067 infections.

This comes as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, in an emergency meeting on Friday, ruled out the imposition of lockdown.

The new cases took the overall tally to 6,68,814 while the death count stands at 11,050 in the city.

At least 2,084 people recovered from the virus on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases down to 11,994.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal once again pushed for the opening up of the vaccination programme for all age groups.

"Centre should allow states to vaccinate everyone on war footing. Need to involve non-healthcare facilities in inoculation drive," he was quoted as saying in media reports.

India registered 469 new Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours and also added 81,466 new cases during the same period, the Ministry of Health released data revealed on Friday.

This is the biggest one-day jump in the number of cases in the past six months.
