The Bangladesh government has so far administered 4.8 million doses of Covishield to its people, and around 80,000 doses alone lasst Sunday. The registration portal for vaccines has already received 6.2 million applications. Bangladesh has procured over 9 million doses of vaccines so far, of which two million of them were donated by India.

According to a report in the Dhaka Tribune, over 1000 hospitals, and centers, including 47 in  capital Dhaka, are currently engaged in the drive every day except on Friday and public holidays.

The country, so far, has reported only 906 cases where people reported some sort of side effects. However, authorities in the country didn’t elaborate on details of reported side effects.

The country will also receive free doses from the WHO’s GAVI program. It is relying on Covishield - the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine locally manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII).

The mass vaccination drive started on 7 February aims to inoculate 130 million in the country.

People from rural areas seem less enthusiastic about vaccines as records show a lesser number of registrations from these areas. Officials plan to initiate special promotional and awareness campaigns targeting these areas.
