Assam: COVID-19 test must for teachers, employees before joining duty on Sept 1

Guwahati/UNI: Teachers and employees of the public educational institutions in Assam, will have to mandatorily take COVID-19 tests and have to join in their duties from Sept 1.

"I understand that many have left for home from their respective place of work during this pandemic. But they should come back and join office mandatorily on 1st September. On being found COVID 19 negative they have to join their duties from September 1," said Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing mediapersons here.

“'Leave without pay' will be implemented on any teacher or other official employee who fails to join duty on 1st September,” Sarma added.

Sarma also announced provincialisation of a total of 3,980 teachers’ posts under the directorates of higher education and secondary education.

The total posts of teachers, provincialised by the Assam government after 6 long years, include 3,049 posts under the directorate of secondary education and 931 posts under the directorate of higher education.

The state government has also announced provincialisation of a total of 355 educational institutes under the directorate of secondary education.

These provincialised educational institutes include 197 high schools, 9 higher secondary schools and 149 senior secondary schools or junior colleges across Assam.

Assam government has also announced provincialisation of 27 colleges across the state.

“Assam government has provincialised a total 355 educational institutes under the directorate of secondary education and 27 colleges under the directorate of higher education,” Sarma said.

He added “We have provincialised a total of 931 posts of college teachers today including 241 posts under 27 colleges and 690 leftover posts.”

The education minister also announced that the government would handover scooties to all the 22,000 girl students, who cleared this year’s Class X examination under the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) securing first division.

“We will handover the scooties to the girl students, who have secured first division under SEBA this year, before the month of October,” the education minister said.

He announced that 300 LP and ME teachers, out of 6,000-7,000 teachers, will be handed over appointment letters in an event to be organized at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra on Aug 27.

Sarma also said that the degree colleges in the state would increase 25% seats only for those students, who have passed higher secondary examinations under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
