New Delhi/IBNS: India, one of the worst Covid-19-affected countries in the world, on Thursday registered the biggest single-day spike in Novel Coronavirus cases by adding almost 67,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

The country reported 66,999 cases including 942 fatalities in 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, taking the Covid tally to nearly 2.4 million.

While 6,53,622 Covid patients are under medical treatment in various health facilities across the country, 16,95,982 have been discharged since the first infection was reported in late January.

As per the Indian government, the fatality rate has dipped to 1.98%, giving a sigh of relief to 1.3 billion people of the vast country.

"With more patients recovering and being discharged from hospitals and home isolation (in case of mild and moderate cases), the total recoveries have crossed the 16 lakh-mark and recovery rate has reached another high of 70.38%," the Health Ministry said.
