COVID-19 claims 34 more lives in Bangladesh

Dhaka/UNI: The death toll from coronavirus has reached 3,399 as 34 more people died from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Besides, 2,487 more tested positive for the virus, raising the number of such cases to 257,600, Professor Nasima Sultana, ADG of the Directorate General of Health Services, said during a press briefing on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, 10,759 samples were examined and out of them 2,487 got positive results for the virus. Apart from, 1,766 more recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 148,370, she said.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 729,809 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 19,820,602 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 12,730,452 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
