India records biggest single-day spike of 38,902 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi/IBNS: India registered the biggest single-day jump in coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours with 38,902 fresh infections, which has resulted in the shooting up of total tally to 10.77 lakhs as of Sunday morning, the Union Health Ministry stated.

The country recorded 543 deaths between Saturday and Sunday mornings, taking the fatality toll to 26, 816.

India presently has 3,73,379 active cases with a recovery rate of 62.86 per cent till Sunday morning, the health ministry bulletin said.

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state by the pandemic in the country. Its virus count crossed the three lakh-mark on Saturday with Mumbai alone surpassing the grim milestone of one lakh cases.

India is the third-worst COVID-19 hit country worldwide after the United States and Brazil.
