Bangladesh records 37 fresh Corona deaths

Dhaka:  Thirty-seven people have died of Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Saturday.

The death toll now stands at 1,425, Dr Nasima Sultana of DGHS, said during an online briefing.

As many as 3,240 people have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 108,775.
A total of 14,032 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

Coronavirus, the highly contagious pathogen first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus a 'pandemic' on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, claimed nearly 462,955 lives globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths.

As many as 8,780,493 people have been affected by the virus across the globe. Among them, 4,641,418 people were recovered from the virus, the website said.
