Bangladesh: COVID-19 cases cross 87,000, death toll touches 1,171

Dhaka/Xinhua: The total number of COVID-19 patients in Bangladesh increased to over 87,000 Sunday, with a daily rise of more than 3,000 cases.

Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing on Sunday afternoon that 3,141 new COVID-19 positive cases and 32 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

"The total number of positive cases is now 87,520 and death toll stands currently at 1,171 with the fresh fatalities of 27 men and five women," she added.

According to the official, 14,505 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in the labs across the country.

During the last 24 hours, 903 more patients were released from hospitals and clinics, bringing the number of recovered patients in the country to 18,730, said the official.
