New Zealand reports 2 more COVID-19 cases in "reassuring" situation

Wellington/Xinhua/UNI:  New Zealand reported two more COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of confirmed and probable cases to 1,490.

Director of Public Health Caroline McElnay told a press conference that one reported case was a nurse who had been looking after elderly patients, and the other case was previously a probable one and was then confirmed.

No more deaths were reported over the past 24 hours, with the death toll remaining at 21, and three people remained in hospital, McElnay said.

Among all the cases in the country, 1,347 people had recovered from the virus, making up 90 percent of the cases, she said, adding 175,835 tests have been processed nationally.

"Play it safe, we do not want a second wave. What you are doing in level 3 is working," McElnay said, adding the epidemic situation was "very reassuring."

The country moved from Alert Level 4 to 3 on April 28 and will stay for at least two weeks at Level 3 before a further review and Alert Level decision on May 11.
