COVID-19: Total positive cases touch 82 in Odisha, govt launches help desk on Whatsapp

Bhubaneswar/UNI: Odisha reported three more Covid-19 positive cases during the last 24 hours taking the total count to 82.

According to state health and family welfare department sources, three more positive cases were detected from Basudebpur block of Bhadrak district.

With the three fresh cases, the Bhadrak district has 11 positive cases.

All the three Covid-19 patients were the co-passengers of a person who had earlier tested positive and had returned from Kolkata.

So far 27 people, who have returned from Kolkata, tested coronavirus positive in the state, accounting for almost 33 per cent of the total positive cases reported in the state.

With the fresh cases in Basudevpur block, the district administration today brought nine more Gram Panchayats under containment zones.

The Health and family Welfare department today appealed to all the people who have returned from West Bengal during the lockdown period to come forward and get themselves tested and also stay in home quarantine for their own and their family members' safety.

The department tweeted that people who came from the affected states, might have been infected with Coronavirus and unaware of it as nearly 80 per cent of positive cases do not have any symptoms of coronavirus.

Hence they should come forward voluntarily and offer test to protect themselves and their family.

Meanwhile, the commisisonerate of police today held discussion with the office bearers of the mosques and requested them to hold the iftar party and offer namaz at home instead of mosques during the month of Ramzan.

The commisisonerate of police have banned mass prayers at the mosques in the wake of Covid-19 outbreak, and Bhubaneswar being declared as a coronavirus hot spot with as many as 46 of the total 82 cases reported so far in the state.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government today launched its Covid-19 help desk on Whatsapp and ask the people to send Hi on 9337929000 to receive all Covid-19 updates.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today spoke to sarpanchs across the state whom the state government has recently delegated the power of collector for effective management of coronavirus in their jurisdiction.

The sarpanchs took the pledge to fight against the Covid-19 and ensure the safety of the people in their locality from the dreaded disease.

The sarpanches have thanked the Chief Minister for taking them in to confidence in the fight against the Covid-19 in the state and assured the Chief Minister to work sincerely to check the spread of the Covid-19 in their panchayat.
