Kuwait City/Xinhua/UNI: The Kuwaiti government has decided to extend the curfew time by three hours as part of the efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, the government spokesman said Monday.

The curfew will be imposed from 4 pm to 8 am starting April 24, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, Tareq Al-Mezrem said at a press conference.

In addition, the Kuwaiti government also decided to extend to May 28 the national holiday, which was originally scheduled to end on April 26, he added.

Kuwait on Monday reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths, bringing the total infections to 1,995 and death toll to nine, the health ministry said in a statement.

On March 22, the Kuwaiti government decided to impose a nationwide curfew.

On March 13, Kuwait suspended all commercial flights. The government also decided to close stores, malls and barbershops.
