Malda, Oct 23 (IBNS): The curse of crib-deaths revisited West Bengal with 11 infants losing their lives at the Malda Medical College and Hospital in the past three days, media reported.

"Eight infants died on Monday and Tuesday and three in the past 24 hours. The age of all the dead infants were between one and 30 days," Medical Superintendent and Vice-Principal, MA Rashid is quoted by media as saying.

"All the babies were severely underweight and malnourished and suffered from respiratory problems," he added.

According to reports, most of the deceased children were brought from the Kaliachak block and other places in Malda district after being referred by various local hospitals.

The hospital had witnessed many crib deaths last year.

In July, over 30 infant died in state Government run Malda Medical College and Hospital.

The government hospital was in the news for the death of 23 infants due to an unspecified illness in June.

Earlier in November 2012, about 30 infant died in the same hospital.

Even in 2011, the horror of infants' deaths haunted the state government-run Medical College and Hospital with about 30 infants dying in a week.
