Union Cabinet approves the National Nutrition Mission
New Delhi, Dec 1 (IBNS): The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of National Nutrition Mission (NNM), the media reported on Friday.
The Cabinet briefing took place at the Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi, which was attended by Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Maneka Gandhi, NS Tomar and JP Nadda.
The National Nutrition Mission has been allocated a three-year budget of Rs 9046.17 crore starting from 2017-18.
The NNM, as an apex body, will monitor, supervise, fix targets and guide the nutrition-related interventions across ministries.
It will strive to reduce the level of stunting, under nutrition, anemia, and low birth-weight babies.
"The Government is committed to ensure that every child and pregnant woman & lactating mother gets adequate nutrition to eliminate malnutrition & stunting," the Women and Child Development Ministry said in a tweet.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, "An elaborate mechanism will be put in place under the National Nutrition Mission to monitor and track nutrition status."
