Mumbai/IBNS: Heavy rains are lashing Mumbai, leaving commuters stranded amid several roads flooding and leading to some flight diversions while disrupting traffic on Wednesday.

Vehicles were seen moving slowly on the flooded roads, leading to traffic jams in many parts of the country's financial capital.

Several commuters were seen stranded amid flooding of railway tracks.

SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Vistara in posts on X said some flights have been diverted.

Vistara said flight No. UK534 enroute to Mumbai is returned to Hyderabad due to bad weather conditions.

Another flight, UK941, from Delhi to Mumbai was diverted to Hyderabad and was expected to arrive at 9.10 pm.

Meanwhile, Mumbai has declared a holiday for schools and colleges due to heavy rains.

"Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai, all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status," SpiceJet said in the post on X.

The weather office issued an alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts, predicting "extremely heavy rainfall".

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rain till Thursday morning.

Several suburbs in Mumbai have been receiving significant rain since afternoon, with Mulund and its surroundings experiencing the heaviest rainfall, flooding low-lying areas.
