In the report of genome sequencing of a family from South Africa in the state, Medical Secretary Vaibhav Galaria informed that the family who returned recently from South Africa have been admitted to RUHS.

The Secretary said that samples of 25 people who came in contact with these people were tested and they were found to be negative. He said that all the people who came in contact are being sampled after doing contact tracing on a large scale.

Galaria informed that the department was fully active since the arrival of the family from South Africa in Jaipur and their monitoring was being done continuously.

He said that intensive contract tracing is being done by the department and treatment will be started after identifying all the people who came in contact.

Seven more people have been found infected with the Omicron variant in Maharashtra, taking the case tally to eight in the state while the nationwide tally has reached 12.

While six cases were reported from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal area, one was detected in the Pune district, the state health department said.
