Rajnath reviews Cyclone Hudhud preparedness

New Delhi, Oct 10 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reviewed the preparedness to face cyclone 'Hudhud' which is set to impact Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

The Union Home Minister spoke to the Chief Ministers of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana  regarding their preparedness to face the fast approaching cyclone 'Hudhud'.

The Home Minister assured the Chief Ministers all help from the Centre. The Centre is closely monitoring the progression of 'Hudhud' expected to hit the coast in the next 24 hrs, a government release said Friday morning.

Cyclone Hudhud is expected to “turn severe”  causing heavy rain and stormy spell of about 140-km/hour, Met department sources said.

The cyclonic storm is expected to hit the coastline oF Andhra Pradesh and Odisha

It is likely to make landfall around the port city of Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning, sources said.

Hudhud is classified as a Category-1 severe cyclonic storm on a scale that rises to Category-5.

It is predicted to strengthen to Category-4 before landfall. 

The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has mobilised about 35 teams in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, especially in the coastal belts.
