Ultraviolette announces BIGGA factory; set to scale production to 250,000 units for The Tesseract
Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ultraviolette has announced plans to establish its BIGGA (Big Global Ambition) Factory, a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, as part of its strategy to significantly expand production and strengthen its presence in domestic and international markets.
The new facility will expand Ultraviolette’s manufacturing footprint and provide the infrastructure and capacity needed to support the company’s next phase of growth.
The BIGGA Factory will initially scale up to an annual manufacturing capacity of 250,000 vehicles, with infrastructure designed to eventually support production of up to 500,000 vehicles a year, depending on demand.
The facility will manufacture Ultraviolette’s upcoming Tesseract electric scooter and will also support the company’s future product portfolio across multiple segments, including Sports, Crossover, Cruiser, Street and scooters.
The project is expected to create around 2,000 jobs in its initial phase, with employment projected to increase further over the next five years as operations expand.
Ultraviolette to Scale Manufacturing Operations
Narayan Subramaniam, Co-founder and CEO of Ultraviolette, said the company has reached an important stage in its growth journey, with the new facility designed to help scale its technology and product portfolio.
“We are at an inflection point in Ultraviolette’s journey. Over the last few years, we have built our foundation around technology, performance and product innovation; the next phase is about building the scale to take that foundation much further,” Subramaniam said.
He added that the BIGGA Factory would provide the manufacturing capacity and infrastructure required to scale production of the Tesseract and future products while enabling the company to serve a larger customer base in India and international markets.
Ultraviolette’s existing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, will continue its regular operations alongside the new plant, strengthening the company’s manufacturing and technology footprint in India.
Why Hosur Was Chosen
Niraj Rajmohan, Co-founder and CTO of Ultraviolette, said Hosur was selected because of its established automotive ecosystem, supply-chain advantages and proximity to the company’s R&D operations and supplier network.
“Hosur is a key manufacturing hub with a well-established automotive ecosystem, significant supply-chain advantages and close proximity to Ultraviolette’s R&D operations and existing supplier network,” Rajmohan said.
He added that the scale and manufacturing flexibility of the BIGGA Factory would help Ultraviolette deliver the Tesseract and future products to customers in India and overseas while maintaining its quality and performance standards.
The company said the facility would also contribute to India’s emergence as a global hub for electric-vehicle technology and manufacturing.
Industry 4.0 Technology and Automation
The Government of Tamil Nadu will facilitate the allotment of land for the facility at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, Hosur.
The plant is being designed as a future-ready manufacturing ecosystem incorporating advanced digital systems, automation and quality engineering. It will follow Industry 4.0 manufacturing principles, including a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for real-time production tracking and traceability.
Digital lean manufacturing and quality-management systems will support the manufacturing process, while automation will be deployed across key operations.
The facility will use collaborative robots for processes such as sorting, welding and assembly, along with automated assembly fool-proofing and vision-based inspection systems. These technologies are expected to improve precision, consistency and production efficiency.
The plant has been designed with scalability and flexibility in mind, allowing Ultraviolette to progressively increase Tesseract production while creating the infrastructure needed to manufacture future models as its portfolio expands.
A dedicated test track will also allow every vehicle to undergo testing and evaluation before dispatch, with the company aiming to maintain stringent standards for design, performance and quality.
Ultraviolette's Global Electric Mobility Ambition
The BIGGA Factory represents a major milestone in Ultraviolette’s transition from a performance-focused electric mobility company to a technology-driven manufacturer operating at greater scale.
By combining advanced manufacturing capabilities, sustainable infrastructure and access to one of India’s established automotive ecosystems, the facility is expected to become a key part of the company’s future growth strategy.
Ultraviolette said its broader ambition is to build Indian electric-vehicle technology and manufacturing capabilities that can compete globally — developing products in India, scaling them through advanced manufacturing and taking them to customers in international markets
