Tata Steel conferred "Business of the Year" award
New Delhi/ Kolkata, Dec 20 (IBNS): Tata Steel has bagged the 'Business of the Year' award also called the Sustainability trophy at the CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2014 ceremony, held in Delhi.
The award function was graced by Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Govt. of India as the Chief Guest.
Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament was the Guest of Honor at the award function. Also, present at the function was Y C Deveshwar, Chairman, ITC Limited and past president, CII, chairman, CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development Advisory Council.
The annual CII-ITC Sustainability Awards is conferred to Indian businesses that demonstrate excellent performance in the area of Sustainable Development. They are given out to recognize and reward excellence in economic, environmental and social performance.
The ‘Business of the Year’ award is the highest award on Sustainability in the country and recognizes the company that has successfully proven a business case for sustainability and demonstrates a company-wide commitment to advancing the sustainable business agenda; not just internally but among customers, suppliers and the industry as well.
Expressing his delight, Koushik Chatterjee, Group Executive Director, Finance and Corporate, Tata Steel said, “Tata Steel over the hundred years and more of its existence has always endeavored to align its strategy and actions that are focused on building sustainable and long-term business by placing balanced emphasis on stakeholder value creation and corporate citizenship. This award further reinforces the belief in Tata Steel that its efforts for an all-round excellence for a sustainable corporate and Sustainable planet are in the right direction. We focus on continued efforts to achieve corporate excellence by engaging in best practices, state-of-the-art products and social endeavors to serve community. We sincerely thank the CII-Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development for recognizing Tata Steel for the esteemed ‘Business of the Year’ award."
Additionally, Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice-President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel added, “We are very pleased to receive the sustainability trophy - the ‘Business of the Year’ award. It is a matter of pride for us and reinforces our commitment to pursue excellence in all areas of operations. The CII-ITC Sustainability awards were initiated in 2006 and Tata Steel has been participating in these awards since its inception. The company has been continuously improving and has been the highest scoring company in these awards for several times since 2006, including in the years 2012 and 2013. It has been conferred the Sustainability Prize for its efforts in the years 2006-2008, and 2011-2013, for Large Business Organizations.
