Sensex plunges 535.88 pts

The BSE Sensex on Wednesday lost further by 535.88 pts at 71,356.60 as heavy selling was witnessed in Metal, IT, Technology and Commodities stocks alongwith weak global cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 148.45 pts at 21,517.35.

The NSE was days high and low at 21,677 and 21,500.35 pts respectively.

The Sensex eased 60 pts at 71,832.62 in opening session. During the day, it was tumbled down 589 pts at 71,303.97, days low, before closing at 71,356.60, sliding 535.88 pts from its previous close.

The stocks that kept the market under pressure were Metal, IT, Technology and BSE Commodities stocks.

Metal declined by 2.44 pc followed by IT by 2.31 pc, Technology by 1.78 pc and Commodities by 0.72 pc.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.20 pc and Small Cap by 0.30 pc.

In 30 scrips, 10 advanced while 20 down.

The losers were JSW Steel by 3.80 pc to be 837, Tata Steel by 3.19 pc to Rs 135.10, Tech Mahindra by 2.84 pc to Rs 1241.50, Wipro by 2.76 pc to be 456.20 and TCS by 2.41 pc to Rs 3692.

The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 1.63 pc to Rs 1600.75, ITC by 1.52 pc to Rs 477.30, Bharti Airtel by 1.15 pc to Rs 1033.70 and SBI by 0.78 pc to Rs 644.05.
