No panic, no stress: Fired from Oracle, techie returns home, drives Uber — Now his story is going viral

| @indiablooms | Apr 06, 2026, at 04:19 pm

The story of a former Oracle employee is gaining attention online amid the recent round of layoffs from the IT giant. The former techie shifted to Bhubaneswar from Bengaluru and changed his profession, instead of searching for a new job.

According to an X post, the former techie is living with his parents now, avoiding the high cost of living in a metro city like Bengaluru.

After losing his job, the techie decided to use his driving skills to work as an Uber driver, earning a steady income.

The techie's story was shared on X by a person who claimed to be his friend.

X user Nayak Satya, wrote on X: "One of my close friends was fired from Oracle Bangalore. No panic, no stress, and no crying on social media."

Sharing his journey further, Satya said: "He straight away came back to his hometown Bhubaneswar. He had postal fixed deposits in two joint accounts ₹15 lakh each. One with his parents, and the other in his and his wife’s name. He also had one in his kids’ account."

"Together, these give him almost ₹28,000 in interest every month. He also had fixed deposits in some Indian banks worth around ₹30 lakh, which give him another ₹15,000 per month," he said.

No EMIs

Satya said: " He is now living at own home with his parents. He knows how to drive, so he immediately started working as an Uber driver at his own convenience earning good."

Satya said his friend does not need to pay any EMIs or loans for any metro city flat.

He said his friend is also planning to start a small business with the help of his parents.

"He never followed influencers, never did SIPs, and avoided all the modern financial hype. Pure old school vibes , steady process and discipline. He happily called me today to meet up after our conversation to cross check potential of Bhubaneswar to start something fresh So folks plan in advance so when required you will never fumble," he said.

Oracle cuts 30,000 jobs globally, 12,000 hit in India

Oracle has reportedly slashed around 30,000 jobs globally, including nearly 12,000 in India, in a sweeping round of layoffs, media reports said.

Employees across teams said they received termination emails as early as 5–6 am, informing them that their roles had been eliminated.

Oracle has an estimated workforce of about 30,000 in India, including those affected by the latest cuts. Reports suggest the company may undertake another round of layoffs soon.

In its communication to employees, Oracle said the positions had become redundant due to operational streamlining. The company added that staff had been informed earlier about organisational changes.

The severance package includes 15 days’ salary for each completed year of service, one month’s pay till the termination date, leave encashment, gratuity (as applicable), and one month’s notice pay.

A two-month top-up salary has also been offered, but only to employees who opt for voluntary resignation.

Earlier reports indicated the layoffs are part of a broader cost-cutting exercise as Oracle looks to free up $8–$10 billion in cash flow.
