Foreign Minister of Canada, Anita Anand, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday when they discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interes.

They extended their discussins in areas that included trade, science and technology, defence, security, energy, education, people-to-people ties and multilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister emphasised the importance of sustaining the momentum in bilateral engagement and translating it into tangible outcomes, including through early conclusion of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

They also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

Prime Minister conveyed his warm greetings to Prime Minister Carney and said that he looked forward to continuing their engagements.

The meeting followed a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, on Tuesday.

The two leaders held what the Indian side described as a warm and productive discussion, agreeing to build on the positive momentum in bilateral relations and pursue concrete outcomes across key areas of their Strategic Partnership.

Their discussions focused on trade, energy, technology, security and people-to-people ties, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation between India and Canada.
