Kolkata: Honda launches dual variants of its new compact SUV BR-V

Kolkata, May 14 (IBNS): Adding to the competition in the compact SUV segment, Japanese automobile company Honda on Friday introduced its new compact SUV variant, Honda BR-V, in Kolkata.

The starting price for the seven-seater compact SUV is INR 9, 04,100 (ex showroom Kolkata). The petrol variant ranges from INR 9,04,100 to INR 12,35,500 (ex showroom Kolkata), whereas the diesel variant ranges from INR 10,21,500 to INR 13,30,700 (ex-showroom,Kolkata).

Officially launched on May 5 in India, the BRV has a length of 4,456 mm, width of 1,735 mm and height of 1,650 mm. 

The Honda BRV is the longest and the only seven-seater vehicle in the compact SUV category. 

Other three compact SUVs in India are Hyundai Crete, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano which are five seater vehicles. The wheelbase is 2,660 mm with a ground clearance of 201 mm.

BRV will come with two engine options, the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol which is equipped with 16-Valve, 4-Cylinder and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel and two transmission options, a new 6-speed manual and CVT automatic with first-in-segment paddle shifters.

According to Honda, the mileage figure of the Honda BRV diesel will be 21.9kmpl, which makes it the most fuel-efficient as compared to other cars in its category. The BRV petrol MT & AT will provide a mileage of 15.4kmpl and 16kmpl respectively

The BR-V comes equipped with Dual SRS Air Bags as Standard offering across variants, along with host of other active and passive safety features.

Earlier showcased at the Auto Expo, the car is developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand.

The BR-V is available in 6 colours. Alabaster Silver Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic and Urban Titanium Metallic, Taffeta White, Carnelian Red Pearl, and White Orchid Pearl.

Speaking on the occasion, Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Cars India Limited said, “India is a key market for Honda and as part of our business expansion, we are focusing on increasing our customer base with new model introductions. The launch of BR-V marks Honda’s entry into the popular compact SUV segment." 

"Customers can experience the outstanding appearance of an SUV and benefit from the versatility and comfort of its spacious 3 row interiors. We are confident that BR-V will strongly appeal to the customers and accelerate our growth while strengthening our brand presence in the country,” Sen added.
