Thiruvananthapuram/UNI: Kerala government has given permission to construct 1,06,000 houses under Phase-II of Life Mission, the State government's comprehensive housing security scheme for the homeless.

Under the Life Mission, the state administration aims to complete the project in 2022-23 by utilising the HUDCO loan.

"Priority will be given to SC, ST, fishermen and the extremely poor in the 'LIFE 2020' list. 40,000 houses will be constructed for SC category, 15,000 for ST, 11,000 for fishermen and 40,000 for General category," sources said on Friday.

"Under the Phase-I, the construction of about 3,11,000 houses were completed. The total outlay of Life Mission is Rs 1871.82 crore which includes Rs 327 crore of the central share of PMAY scheme."

"The Government also embarked on a mission to eradicate extreme poverty in Kerala. As the first step, 64,006 families that require assistance have been identified."

The government is working to provide housing and better living conditions for the homeless.
