ISDS empowers Manjeet Kumar: A success story for progressive farmers in JK

| @indiablooms | Apr 26, 2023, at 05:57 am

Trindi/J&K: Manjeet Kumar, a livestock farmer from Trindi village in Samba District, J&K  started his journey as a successful entrepreneur by implementing the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme (ISDS) in Jammu and Kashmir, which helped him make progress as a progressive farmer.

When Manjeet Kumar visited the Sheep Husbandry Department, he had no idea that it would transform his fate forever. Kumar expresses gratitude towards the officials who offered him guidance and support, leading him towards success as an entrepreneur, reported Good Morning Kashmir.

With the aid of the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme (ISDS), Kumar received 25 ewes and 2 rams, which enabled him to start his journey as a prosperous entrepreneur.

"I earned Rs 1 lakh in the first year of my business by selling ten male sheep and afterwards my trade never looked back, giving me increased incomes every year," declared Kumar.

In a message for youth of J&K, “Kumar makes a fervent appeal to all the unemployed youth of J&K particularly of Samba district to take benefit of government schemes and establish their own business ventures.”

In 2020, the government of Jammu and Kashmir initiated the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme with a budget of Rs 10 crore, with the objective of encouraging the formation of sheep and goat units within the Union Territory.

The Integrated Sheep Development Scheme has generated enthusiasm among villagers, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission to increase farmers' income.

The Sheep Husbandry Department aims to boost wool and mutton production and curb youth unemployment through this initiative.

The scheme's goal is to increase livestock productivity sustainably by exploring the potential for exports and value-added products.

The introduction of high genetic potential sheep breeds, exotic breeds for crossbreeding, marketing facilities, and preventive measures for endemic diseases has led to an overall improvement in the sheep rearing industry.

Consequently, the socio-economic status of a vast majority of livestock producers has received a boost.
