General Manager, Eastern , South Eastern Railway launches paperless ticketing through Mobile App for Howrah-Kharagpur Section

Kolkata, Feb 25 (IBNS) General Manager, Eastern and South Eastern Railway A K Goel officially launched the paperless ticketing system through Mobile App for Howrah-Kharagpur Section of South eastern Railway here on Thursday in a function and even addressed press and put his reactions on this year’s Railway Budget.

It is to be noted that last month the same app was introduced in Howrah-Burdwan Section of Eastern Railway.

The system is applicable through GPS-enabled smart phones (Android or Windows-based) having good internet connectivity. The booking of tickets can be done from open space (preferably) beyond 20 minutes and within two kms from the station premises.

Goel even vented out his reactions on this year’s budget in a press meet which followed.

He appreciated Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu’s initiatives in not hiking the passenger fare and dealt in length the initiatives taken by the minister in reserving accommodation on trains available on demand, time tabled freight trains, high end technology to improve safety record, eliminating all unmanned level crossings, improving punctuality, higher average speed of freight trains, semi high speed trains running along the golden quadrilateral among others.

He even pointed out the Indian Railways’ positive initiatives to give more facilities to the passengers. The Railway Budget this year proposes for 65,000 additional berths and 2500 water vending machines with SMART (Specially Modified Aesthetic Refreshing Travel) Coaches to ensure higher carrying capacity and provision of new amenities including automatic doors, bar-code readers, bio-vacuum toilets, water-level indicators, accessible dustbins, ergonomic seating, improved aesthetics, vending machines, entertainment screens, LED lit boards for advertising, PA system.

It also proposes special facilities ladies as well as senior citizens which Goel elaborated in his speech. 

The railways have developed world’s first Bio-Vacuum toilet and 17,000 Bio-toilets will be provided in the trains.  

The Indian Railways even proposes to introduce 1,780 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines all over the country with mobile apps and GoIndia smartcard for cashless purchase of UTS and PRS tickets.

The capacity of e-ticketing system will be enhanced from 2,000 tickets per minute to 7,200 tickets per minute to support 1,20,000 concurrent users as against  40,000 earlier.  400 more stations will be provided with Wi Fi facilities.

Goel even talked about railway earnings of both Eastern and South Eastern Railways through passengers which is Rs.2045 crore from April, 2015 to January 2016 for Eastern Railway and Rs. 1531.36 crore from 2015 to January 2016 for South Eastern Railway.
