Kolkata, June 2 (IBNS) Automobile major Ford India more than doubled its sales in May, selling 12,288 vehicles in combined domestic wholesales and exports, compared with 5,993 units sold in the corresponding period last year.

Domestic sales stood at 6,053 vehicles in May, up 51 percent from 4,002 vehicles. The company exported 6,235 vehicles, against 1,991 units in the corresponding period last year.

“A stable government is a positive development for overall economic and business sentiment in the country. We are hopeful that the new government will support ongoing industry-friendly initiatives like the excise duty reduction and look at further positive measures to improve consumer sentiment,” said Vinay Piparsania, executive director of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India.

“We would look forward to the new government undertaking measures such as introduction of GST, rationalization of taxes and encourage foreign investment to promote sustained growth of the economy and the automotive sector.”

In May, Ford India reopened bookings for all variants of the award-winning all-new Ford EcoSport compact urban SUV. Since its launch, the Ford EcoSport has received an enthusiastic response from customers and garnered record bookings thanks to its robust drive dynamics, exemplary performance, smart technology and compelling value proposition.

“With over 50,000 units of the EcoSport delivered, we have significantly reduced the waiting period and are pleased to extend the opportunity to book the Ford EcoSport to more customers,” added Piparsania
