Bajaj Auto-KTM collaborate to expand into Indonesian market

| | Apr 08, 2016, at 08:18 pm
Pune/Mumbai, Apr 8 (IBNS) Bajaj Auto Limited announced on Friday that through an agreement with Austria's KTM AG, it is set to extend its distribution network in Indonesia, said to be South East Asia's largest motorcycle market.
The agreement involves KTM-branded Duke and RC motorcycles up to a displacement of 400cc, which are developed and assembled by the Indo-Austrian joint venture.

The motorcycles will be distributed through a chain of KTM dealerships, to be managed by Bajaj, with the aim of expanding the business in this relevant, growing and price sensitive market in South East Asia, according to the company.

The existing business partnership with importer P T Jaya Selarus Sejahtera will remain but will focus on the model range above 400 cc, said the company.

Hubert Trunkenpolz, CSO, KTM, said, “The decision to emphasise our sales activities in the south-east Asian distribution network is the next logical step in our long-term oriented strategy. It supports our presence in the price sensitive Indonesian market by using synergies from our strong alliance with Bajaj."

Rakesh Sharma, President, International business, Bajaj Auto, said, “Bajaj has successfully established the KTM brand in India with an exclusive channel of 250 KTM stores. For Bajaj Auto, this agreement to distribute sub 400 KTM bikes in Indonesia is a major step forward.”
