Kolkata, Mar 3 (UNI/IBNS): The State Information Technology and Electronics (IT&E) Department recently held a seminar at Webel Bhavan in Salt Lake to carve out plans for the expansion of the electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector in Bangla through the establishment of electronics and hardware parks at numerous locations.

This seminar was held to initiate the decision on electronics and hardware parks taken by the department, as part of the State’s IT policy, last year. The policy intends to transform Bangla into a knowledge-driven, technologically-empowered welfare society.

The State has also made elaborate plans for increasing employment opportunities and promoting the State as a preferred investment destination via the IT sector.

The seminar was chaired by the additional chief secretary of the IT&E Department and was attended by representatives from several electronics manufacturing industry bodies and associations and companies like KOTRA (South Korea), Elma Electronic (Switzerland), Compass, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) and others.

Two IT development parks have already been set up in Naihati and Falta with the aim to promote the electronics manufacturing industry, while two more are coming up in Sonarpur and Kalyani.
