West Bengal: IIT Kharagpur holds Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017

Kharagpur/Kolkata, Feb 6 (IBNS): The Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017, the largest student-level entrepreneurial summit in India, organised by IIT Kharagpur here on Feb 4, served as a networking platform for budding entrepreneurs, industry leaders and investors.

The programme was organised by Entrepreneurship Cell (E-cell), a non-profit student organization, working under the aegis of Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship, IIT Kharagpur and is dedicated to promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation among students, in the campus and beyond.

Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is IIT Kharagpur’s annual international corporate convergence organised by its Entrepreneurship Cell.

GES 2017, presented by Uber, was held from Feb 3- 5, 2017.

E-cell arranges for Guest Lectures, Case Studies, Knowledge Camps, Patent workshops throughout the year to involve students in activities that are essential to an entrepreneur.

It also actively promotes networking among investors and the right entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship Cell has two annual flagship events: Global Entrepreneurship Summit and Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive and an annual Global
Business Model Competition - Empresario.

Present at GES 2017 were Jayesh Parekh, Managing Partner, Jungle Ventures & Co-founder, Sony Entertainment Television, Ashok Venkatramani [Former Chief Executive Officer, ABP News], Gautam Sinha [CEO, Times Internet Group], Sadashiv Nayak [CEO, BigBazaar] and many more.

Workshops covering essentials vital for an entrepreneur were also organized as a part of the summit.

For instance: Idea to raising seed fund [Jarvis Accelerator], Government policies for Indian Startups [Invest India], The GATE of success [Ace Academy], Chatbots are taking over the world [Gupshup], VR- The future ahead- Development and happening [Virtual Infocom], Start Well- Conceive a brilliant idea [Mr. Larry W Cox], All about growth [IB Hubs], and Mastering the Game of Starting up, Life & everything in between [Yoga of poker and startup].

GES 2017 played host to other major events such as Empresario (Annual Global B-Model Competition) Finale, National Product Expo presented by 10,000 startups a Nassom initiative, a platform to showcase products that will define the future, Connect The Dots Conference, Start-up Camp , Global Entrepreneurship Conference.

GES 2017 also marked the launch of KAN: Kharagpur Angel Network, an initiative connecting the alumni, angel investors and venture capitalists to the IIT Kharagpur Startup Community, and KPIN: Kharagpur Product Innovation Network, a network to connect innovators with the proper co-founders.

Panel discussions dealt with topics such as Opportunity Striking at the right time, India- Silicon Valley of the East, Online Vs Offline: finding the right balance, which will play host to panelists like Vikas Lakhani (Co- founder, Instaoffice), Raghav Kanoria (Founder & Partner at Neoleap Business Ventures LLP), Sachin Oswal (Head, Omnichannel,Shopperstop), Akhil Shahani (MD, Shahani Group) and many more.

Besides, the Summit held many online and on-spot events pertaining to different aspects of pursuing entrepreneurship.

GES 2017 is all set to be a milestone in journey of Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur, justifying the motto of E-Cell as a body meant to promote and instill the spirit of Entrepreneurship amongst the young minds within and beyond the campus, said the organisers.
