Qatar Airways to provide seamless connectivity from Kolkata to USA

India Blooms News Service | | 20 May 2014, 10:18 pm
Kolkata, May 20 (IBNS): With the imminent launch of new routes to Miami and Dallas, Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar, will provide greater seamless connectivity through the airline’s flagship wide-body Boeing 777 and Airbus 320 aircraft to seven destinations in the USA from Kolkata with a limited connecting time of 50-60 minutes at Doha, the company said in a statement.
Qatar Airways is currently flying to five destinations in the United States - New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia, but the airline will nearly double its footprint in the country with the addition of two new routes in the coming months – Miami (10 June) and Dallas/Fort Worth (1 July).

"The excellent network of Qatar Airways to multiple US gateways and flight connectivity to secondary cities will enable many more travellers from Kolkata to visit the USA. And this seamless connectivity coupled the launch of the much anticipated new Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha, will further enhance the travel experience and comfort for passengers," the statement said.

As of May 27, the Kolkata International Airport, with a massive 25 lakh sq ft. area and a terminal capacity of 20 million passengers will be connecting passengers via Qatar Airways with an unrivalled travel experience at HIA, the world’s newest international hub.

The new facility features 138 check-in counters across 5 islands, comprising of 108 counters for Qatar Airways’ Economy passengers and all other airlines; 14 seated check-in areas for Qatar Airways’ First Class passengers; and 16 counters dedicated to Qatar Airways’ Business Class passengers.

In addition, HIA will operate 41 contact gates, which will increase to 65 once the airport opens Concourses D and E with six of the gates being fully dedicated to servicing the Airbus A380 aircraft, of which Qatar Airways has 13 on order with the first delivery expected in early June.

Travellers transiting through Hamad International Airport will have the opportunity to fully experience the new 600,000 square metre passenger terminal complex, which features arched columns, generous natural lights as well as works of art which were commissioned specifically for the state-of-the-art airport.

High-end retail and food and beverage outlets; activity nodes, which include computers with internet access, children’s play and rest areas; and countless other designer and functional touches will take the HIA travel experience to a whole new level.

Henry Moses, Country Manager India, Qatar Airways said: “Kolkata - US is one of the fasting growing routes in India and we see tremendous potential from this market. In line with Qatar Airways’ growth strategy in India, many routes are served with multiple frequencies, ensuring maximum connectivity and convenience by providing some of the shortest travel times in the industry.”
