Indian Market: Sensex improves 169.51 pts

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Monday recovered 169.51 pts to close at 59,500.41 following gains in IT, Technology and Telecommunications stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose 44.60 pts at 17,648.95.

The sensex opened on a weak note at 59,101.69 pts, sliding 229 pts. It was dropped nearly 631 pts, at 58,699.20, days low. In late trade, it erased earlier losses and ended positive at 59,500.41, gaining 169.51 pts from its previous close.

In sectoral indices, IT was a major gainer, up 1 pc followed by Technology by 0.91 pc and Telecommunication by 0.69 pc.

In scrips, Bajaj Finance was a star gainer, up by 4.67 pc to Rs 6025 followed by Bajaj Finserv by 2.35 pc to Rs 1345.70, Ultracemco by 2.10 pc to Rs 6858.15 and NTPC by 1.86 pc to Rs 169.40.

The losers were Powergrid by 3.08 pc to Rs 212.40, IndusInd Bank by 2.33 pc to Rs 1090.55, L& T by 1.86 pc to Rs 2120.05 and Tata Steel by 1.66 pc to Rs 118.64.

The Mid Cap fell by 0.22 pc and Small Cap by 0.10 pc. Of 30 scrips, 19 advanced while 11 declined.
