Indian Market: Sensex down 287.70 pts

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Tuesday dropped 287.70 pts to settle at 59,543.96 on profit booking by local operators.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slipped 74.40 pts at 17,656.35.

Advancing over 500 pts on Monday, at Muhurat trading, the Sensex touched 60K level to open at 60,002.96, up 171 pts. It was rallied 250 pts at 60,0081.24, days high.

Later, it erased earlier gains and ended negative at 59,543.96, sliding 287.70 pts from its previous close.

It was registered days low at 59,489.02, down 342 pts.

The stocks include FMCG, Utilities, Bankex and Realty pushed the market down.

In scrips, Nestle India Ltd was a major loser, fell by 2.83 pc to Rs 20,278.15, Hind Unilever by 2.71 pc to Rs 2504.35, Bajaj Finserv by 2.55 pc to Rs 1659.05, Kotak Bank by 2.52 pc to Rs 1847.05 and HDFC by 1.59 pc to Rs 2354.

The gainers were Tech Mahindra by 3.29 pc to Rs 1082.55, Maruti Suzuki by 2.72 pc to Rs 9004.45, L and T by 1.98 pc to Rs 1947.90 and Dr Reddy's Lab by 1.52 pc to Rs 4443.60.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.45 pc while Small Cap fell by 0.35 pc.

In 30 scrips, 10 advanced while 20 declined.
