Indian Market: Sensex drops by 306 points

Mumbai: Snapping the gaining streak of last six sessions, the BSE Sensex on Monday tumbled down 306 pts at 55,766.22 on profit booking by local dealers.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 88.45 pts at 16,691.00.

The Sensex opened weak at 55,877.50, fell by 195 pts in opening session. It dropped further by 535 pts at 55,537.08 before closing at 55,766.22, sliding by 306.05 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 56,018.09 and 55,537.08 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 16,706.08 and 16,561.25 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Auto, Oil and Gas, Energy and Technology stocks dragged the market today.

In scrips, M&M was top loser, it declined by 3.83 pc followed by Reliance Industries which fell by 3.39 pc to Rs 2418, Maruti Suzuki by 2.33 pc to Rs 8620, Kotak Bank by 1.66 pc to Rs 1796 and Tech Mahindra by 1.35 pc to Rs 1014.45.

The gainers were Tata Steel by 3.10 pc to Rs 965,. IndusInd Bank by 1.80 pc to Rs 959.75, Asian Paints by 1.25 pc to Rs 3104.60 and HCL Technology by 0.96 pc to Rs 928.85.

The Mid Cap was moved up by 0.03 pc while Small Cap eased by 0.13 pc.

In 30 scrips, 12 advanced while 18 declined.

Asian Market was also seen weak as Australia was down by 0.08 pc, China by 0.60 pc, Hong Kong by 0.38 pc and Japan by 0.77 pc.
