Indian Market: Sensex down 460.19 points

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Friday tanked 460.19 points to close at 57,060.87 owing to profit booking by local operators at higher-level.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 142.50 points at 17,102.55.

The market remained volatile on Friday as the BSE Sensex advanced 296 pts to open at 57,817.51. During the day, it was surged 454 pts at 57,975.48, days high.

Later, it was tumbled down 619 pts at 56,902.30, days low, before closing at 57,060.87 from its previous close.

The sensex registered days high and low at 57,975.48 and 56,902.30 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,377.65 and 17,055.26 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Oil and Gas, Power, Utilities, Energy and Capital Goods dragged the market today.

In scrips, Axis Bank was a top loser, down 6.42 pc at Rs 729.85, followed by Wipro by 2.74 pc to Rs 508.25, Maruti Suzuki by 2.64 pc to Rs 7680, Powergrid by 2.48 pc to Rs 229.80 and SBI by 2.12 pc to Rs 496.30.

The gainers were Kotak Bank by 1.44 pc to Rs 1791, Sun Pharma by 0.94 pc to Rs 929, HDFC Bank by 0.87 pc to Rs 1382.95 and Tata Steel by 0.86 pc to Rs 1271.95.

The Mid Cap declined by 0.81 pc and Small Cap by 0.58 pc. In 30 scrips, 9 advanced while 21 declined. European stock gained on Friday as global stocks received a boost from strong corporate earnings, but remain on course for a negative month.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index went up 1 per cent in the early trade. Earlier in Asia, South Korea's Kospi moved up 1 per cent, and China's CSI300 gained 2.4 per cent.
