Senco Gold and Diamonds Chairman Shaankar Sen dies at 63

Kolkata/IBNS: Senco Gold and Diamonds Chairman and Managing Director Shaankar Sen died in Kolkata on Tuesday. He was 63.

Although there has been no official confirmation regarding the reason for his death, IBNS has learnt from sources that he succumbed to COVID-19.

According to sources, he was battling the contagion for the past few weeks at a private health facility in Kolkata's EM Bypass area.

The company expressed profound grief and released a statement SAYING: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the demise of our respected Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Shaankar Sen."

"Mr. Shaankar Sen, 63 is a shining example of Bengali entrepreneurship and has been instrumental in putting the brand Senco Gold and Diamonds on the National map."

"From owning just three jewellery stores in Kolkata that he inherited from his father, in the early 1990s to more than 100 across the country today, Mr. Sen has made Senco Gold and Diamonds, the largest gold jeweller from eastern India and has expanded its footprint across 14 states," it said.

"Mr. Sen will be remembered as a man with a vision, a dynamic and inspirational leader who always had a smile on his face and immense wisdom," the statement added.

All India Gem and Jewellery Dometic Council also expressed shock in its statement.

"Dear Members, Shocking news!!  With a heavy heart, we announce that we have lost our VC Shri SHANKAR SEN JI today morning. It’s a big loss to his family to Senco to GJC to our board and above all personally to me," GJC India Chairman stated.
