Indian market: Sensex down by 181.40 pts

Mumbai/IUNI: The BSE Sensex on Tuesday lost another 181.40 points to settle at 41,461.26 as selling pressure was seen in Energy, FMCG, Finance, Auto, Bankex and Consumer Durable stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) too eased by 50.75 points to 12,212.00.

The Nifty registered days high and low at 12,283.70 and 12,202.10 points respectively.

The Sensex rose by 42 points to 41,684.51 in opening trade and gained 60 points to 41,702.98, day high. Later, it slid nearly 219 points to 41,423.07 day low before closing at 41,461.26 from its last close.

The sectoral indices like Consumer Durable, FMCG, Finance, Auto, Bankex and Capital Goods kept the market low for another day today.

In scrips, HCL Tech, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, TCS and Tech Mahindra dipped during the day.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.02 pc while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.02 pc.

The market breadth was negative. On BSE, 1138 shares advanced while 1339 shares declined. A total of 176 shares were unchanged. In Nifty 50 index, 24 stocks advanced and 26 stocks declined.

The stock markets will remain closed on Wednesday on account of Christmas.

Overseas, the European markets were trading mixed while the Asian stocks ended mixed on Tuesday ahead of the Christmas holiday on Wednesday.
