Winnipeg police issue ticket for consuming cannabis in vehicle

| @indiablooms | Oct 18, 2018, at 05:17 pm

Winnipeg, Oct 18 (IBNS): Winnipeg police are issuing tickets to all those who are consuming cannabis in vehicles, which is contrary to the Cannabis Act, media reports said.

The use of recreational cannabis has been legalised across Canada a day ago.

However, consuming cannabis while driving or in the vehicle is contrary to the law.

Winnipeg police took to Twitter to say, "So … this happened early this morning: A Consume Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle ticket was issued. Just like alcohol, consuming cannabis is legal - and like alcohol, consuming it in your vehicle is **not**. #KnowYourRole"

Canada is the second country to legalise the use of recreational cannabis.

Uruguay was the first country to legalise recreational cannabis.

According to BBC, the first recreational cannabis (which was to be legally bought) was purchased at midnight on Wednesday. It was bought on the island of Newfoundland.

Canadian adults will be allowed to possess around 30 grams of dried cannabis in public. Exceeding the limit will be deemed illegal and will attract penalty.

The authorities have also stated that buying cannabis from unlicensed dealer or growing more than four plants per household will be treated as illegal.

A buyer will need to be at least 18 years or older to obtain it from licensed stores, while some Canadian provinces have set up the age limit to 19.

Cannabis-infused foods will not be available now, but is expected to take a year from the time the bill comes into effect. Within this gap, the government is expected to set up the system.
