At least two Indian nationals were shot dead in Covo, in Italy’s Bergamo province, outside the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji (Sikh temple) on April 17, according to local media reports.

The incident occurred amid preparations for the Vaisakhi celebrations in the city.

The deceased have been identified as Raginder Singh, 48, and Gurmit Singh.

They were reportedly shot shortly after leaving a warehouse that had been designated as a place of worship.

An assailant approached the victims while armed, opened fire, and then fled the scene in a car, leaving the community in shock ahead of the festival, La Sicilia newspaper reported.

A witness, Singh Govindpa, told reporters that the shooter was “an Indian from Antegnate” and a frequent visitor to the temple. He also said that a third person sustained grazing injuries during the attack.

The official Vaisakhi celebrations in the city were scheduled to be held on Saturday.
