Colombo:  The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and Independent Television Network (ITN) have suspended their live and recorded telecasts as the corporation premises were surrounded by protesters, Daily Mirror reported.

According to unconfirmed social media posts, some protesters even entered the premises of a news channel.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who earlier flew out of the country to The Maldives, has told the Parliament Speaker that he will resign on Wednesday, reports UNI.

The Speaker said the President contacted him a short while ago and pledged to resign as earlier promised, media reports said.

A letter to this effect will be sent to the Speaker within the day, the reports said.
