Islamabad, June 30 (IBNS): Pakistan will have a key guest this Autumn when Duke of Cambridge Prince William and his wife Kate will visit the country, officials confirmed on Sunday.

The Kensington Palace confirmed about the visit on their Twitter handle.

" The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake an official visit to Pakistan this autumn, at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Further details will be advised in due course," read the official tweet.

This is going to be the first official visit by a member of the British royal family to Pakistan since 2006.

According to Geo News, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, had visited the nation that year.

Previously, the Queen visited in 1961 and 1997, and Princess Diana travelled there on a solo trip in 1991, reported Geo News.

Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, welcomed the announcement and tweeted: "#RoyalVisit2Pakistan Government & the people of Pakistan warmly welcome the announcement of the @KensingtonRoyal of the Royal visit by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan this year."

He said: "#RoyalVisit2Pakistan People of Pakistan cherish&fondly recall visits of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II to Pakistan during 1961 and 1997. Upcoming Royal visit reflects the importance UK attaches to Pakistan. Both countries enjoy historical links & wish to strengthen further."
