Pakistan: Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif tests COVID-19 positive

Islamabad: Pakistan's key opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Shehbaz Sharif has asked the masses and PML-N workers to pray for his health," PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb was quoted as saying by Geo News.

The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly tested positive at a time when the nation is witnessing a fifth wave of the COVID-19.

Active coronavirus cases in Pakistan have shot up from 39,881 to 44,717 in the last 24 hours, the highest since Oct 6, according to official figures released Wednesday morning, as the Omicron variant pushes infections across the country, reports Geo News.
