US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday wished Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday and said he continues to inspire people by embodying a message of unity, peace, and compassion.

"The United States remains firmly committed to promoting respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Tibetans," Marco Rubio wrote in a statement.

"We support efforts to preserve Tibetans’ distinct linguistic, cultural, and religious heritage, including their ability to freely choose and venerate religious leaders without interference," he said.

Former US President Barack Obama greeted Dalai Lama and was quoted s saying by CNN: "You’ve shown generations what it means to practice compassion and speak up for freedom and dignity. Not bad for someone who describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

Modi said that the Dalai Lama has been an enduring symbol of love, compassion, patience, and moral discipline. His message has inspired respect and admiration across all faiths.

In a message on X, the Prime Minister said, "I join 1.4 billion Indians in extending our warmest wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday. He has been an enduring symbol of love, compassion, patience and moral discipline. His message has inspired respect and admiration across all faiths. We pray for his continued good health and long life. @DalaiLama."
