Chinese aggression: Taiwan thanks US for 'rock-solid support'

Taipei: Taiwan government has thanked the USA for its commitment of "rock-solid support" against China's coercion.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry tweeted: "We sincerely thank @StateDept for its rock-solid support of democratic #Taiwan in the face of Beijing's ongoing coercion. Based on shared values & interests, we're committed to our partnership with the #US in furthering peace & stability in the #IndoPacific."

Taiwan recently reported  a large incursion by Chinese warplanes.

The incident coincided with US president Joe Biden's first day in his term as the head of the country.

Sunday's operation involved 15 aircraft and followed a similar drill that led to a warning from Washington, reports BBC.

Analysts told BBC China is testing the level of support of Biden for Taiwan.

Meanwhile, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price came out in support of Taiwan and tweeted: "The U.S. urges Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan’s democratically elected representatives. We support a peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues."

Interestingly, Taiwan sees itself as an independent nation.

However, China considers it as a breakaway region.
