One person was arrested after a car ploughed into Liverpool fans during the iconic British football club's Premier League trophy parade in Liverpool city of England, on Monday evening, leaving at least 47 people, including four children, injured.

Merseyside Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the car stopped at the scene, and a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested.  We believe him to be the driver of the vehicle.

Dave Kitchin, from North West Ambulance Service, said 20 patients at the scene were treated for minor injuries.

"27 patients in total were taken to hospital by ambulance and we believe two of those, including one of the children, have sustained injuries deemed to be serious," Kitchin said.

Sims confirmed that the incident was not being treated as an 'act of terrorism'.

"We would ask that people refrain from sharing distressing footage from the incident online and please share any information directly with our investigation team. Information, including video footage, can be passed on via the Major Incident Police Portal (MIPP)," Sims said.

A large number of football fans had gathered in the city to celebrate Liverpool Football Club’s 20th top-flight league title.

Several videos of the incident have now gone online showing the moment when the car ploughed over fans.

UK PM Calls The Incident Appalling

UK PM Keir Starmer described the incident as 'appalling'.

"The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected," he said.

"I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident," he said.

Liverpool Club Reacts

Liverpool Football Club said it is in direct contact with the Merseyside Police regarding the incident.

"We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening," the club wrote on X.
