Kabul, Jan 7 (IBNS): Saving several lives, the Afghan police forces have thwarted anti-government armed militants bid to detonate a mosque in western Herat province of the war-torn country, media reports said on Monday.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Monday that the militants were looking to detonate two improvised explosive devices inside a mosque in Adraskan district but the National Police forces discovered and defused the explosives with the support of local residents, reported Khaama Press.

The Afghanistan-based news agency reported quoting the statement issued by the Ministry: "The criminal terrorists do not even respect holy places as part of their activities against Islam and humanity.”

No terrorist group has commented on the matter so far.

Afghanistan has witnessed several terrorism-related attacks in recent times.
